Two Spirits

Fred Martinez was nádleehi, or two-spirit, a male-bodied person with a feminine nature, a special gift according to his Navajo culture. Fred became one of the youngest hate crime victims in modern history when he was murdered at sixteen. Following the film we will be joined by Cathy Renna, one of the key activists working with Fred Martinez’s family, the media, and the police, for discussion and feedback.

Time: 7:00pm
Location: New South Screening Room

Day of Silence

Sign your pledge and pick up a DOS button in Red Square or the LGBTQ Resource Center all week. Pledging to a day of silence brings attention to the silence imposed on LGBTQ people and their Allies caused by harassment, prejudice, and discrimination. Show that you stand for a safe and harassment-free life for all, regardless of sexual orientation, gender identity, or gender expression. Ending the silence is the first step toward building awareness and bringing voice to our community.
Time: All Day
Location: Across Campus

With a DJ, professional performers, and food, this will be one party you won’t want to miss. Challenge yourself, challenge the binary.

Gay Rights Coalition v. Georgetown University, 1987

Professor Walter Walsh of the University of Washington will present his analysis of this groundbreaking 1987 case that changed the history of Georgetown forever. Today we celebrate the existence of six LGBTQ student groups across campus and the existence of the LGBTQ Resource Center.
