Gender-Inclusive Housing & Restroom Access

On-Campus Housing for Trans/NB/GNC Students

The Residential Living team is committed to partnering with students to identify safe and appropriate housing for individuals who identify as transgender, non-binary, or gender non-conforming on a case-by-case basis. For more information, fill out the Housing Accommodations & Gender Identity form here. The form is only able to be accessed by the few Residential Living professional staff who help students with housing assignments. One of the team members will contact you to set up an appointment to learn more about your individual needs and will work with you to identify housing options to best meet your needs within the spaces available on campus at Georgetown, both on the Hilltop & Capitol campuses. For more information, visit Residential Living’s website or reach out to Residential Living directly at residentialliving@georgetown.edu.

The LGBTQ Resource Center can also serve as a liaison between queer students and the Office of Residential Living to provide further support. We invite students to reach out to the Center at lgbtq@georgetown.edu.

Gender-Inclusive Housing

Georgetown undergraduate students recently voted in spring 2024 on a GUSA-supported student referendum in support of gender-inclusive housing in our residential system. Student referenda express students’ views on an issue.

For the past several years, the Residential Living team has partnered with students to identify appropriate on-campus housing for individuals who identify as transgender, non-binary, or gender non-conforming on a case-by-case basis.

Over the last year, colleagues in Student Affairs, Planning and Facilities Management, GUSA, and campus LGBTQIA+ organizations have begun work on an initial effort to introduce a gender-inclusive housing protocol for the incoming undergraduate class of 2028.

With the outcome of the referendum, undergraduate students affirmed the importance of this effort and the consideration of future steps to support a residential climate that is inclusive for all students.

Starting with the housing application for the class of 2028, Georgetown has added a question to its housing process to provide a gender-inclusive option. New students can indicate they identify as a transgender, non-binary, or gender non-conforming individual seeking gender-inclusive housing, or they are welcoming and affirming of LGBTQ individuals and wish to be considered as a potential roommate for students seeking gender-inclusive housing.

On-Campus All-Gender Bathroom Map

To access the live map of all-gender bathrooms on campus, navigate to the Amenities tab in the menu found on the left side of the page. Select the checkbox labeled “All Gender Bathrooms,” and pins will appear on the campus map.

If members of the campus community are aware of a gender-neutral or all-gender bathroom on campus that is not on this map, they are welcome and encouraged to email the exact location of the bathroom, current signage, and a picture to workmanagement@georgetown.edu so that it can be added to the map.

Refuge Restrooms is a web application that seeks to provide safe restroom access for transgender, intersex, and gender nonconforming individuals. Users can search for restrooms by proximity to a search location, add new restroom listings, as well as comment and rate existing listings.
